Naomi's Fight

History of Events so far...

In the beginning...

The first events to take place were simple pub crawls with the first taking place on Good Friday 2008. However, once the press was involved everything took on a new life with donations and events all over the place. Most of the ones I know about are listed below. If I've missed you event let me know and I'll update the page. I am not including the amounts raised as we have reached the target and every little bit helped just as much as a large amount and we are grateful for it all.

Benefit Concerts

Marion Baldwin's charity night at Lower Ince Labour Club

12th July there was a charity night in Jay Dees function room on Poolstock Lane, Wigan. This room was kindly been donated for free. A raffle draw took place on the night with the prizes listed below. Before Autumn Falls performed on the night, along with Bingo and an Auction.

13th July we held a Benefit Concert in the Liquid Rooms, Edinburgh. The bands all performed for free and the price of the room and staff hire was reduced. Thanks to GTA Concerts and Events for providing help and promotion as well as some of the bands, and to Events Armoury for providing the posters. Also thanks to Rock DJ Tommy for keeping the party going between sets and keeping the local radio stations on our side with interviews and promotion. Our final playlist was Failure to Communicate, Lycanthrope, Heavens Basement and Wired Desire.

23rd November we had full use of Studio 24, Edinburgh for another concert, this time raising funds purely for the CF Trust. We had 4 bands playing on the night although at one point we almost had 7. Unfortunately we did not manage to attract press coverage for this event and it was a freezing cold night, not many people turned up so I am unsure about repeating the formula. The bands were excellent and it would have been a fantastic night if more bodies had turned up. Many thanks to Wired Desire, Failure to Communicate, Vantage Point, Dark Matter, Illicit Still (who had to pull out but did arrange for Dark Matter to play) and Lycanthrope (who also had to pull out and arranged their own replacement with Vantage Point) and finally to John Doe (who didn't have enough rehearsal time due to distance and Uni work and didn't want to give less than their best).

November Concert blog

The concert is over ... it was a freezing cold night in the middle of a recession and on the run up to christmas so I suppose I can understand why so few people wanted to go out. We only had 30 people turn up through the night, a very disappointing turnout with only 4 people from the facebook group who said they'd come actually doing so and the only under 18's being my own kids and a friend. As a result we only made £190 in total for the CF Trust.

For all you who did come to the concert, THANKYOU, it was a great night and the bands were all amazing, I think they were the best performances I've seen in decades, just a shame the audience was so small.
Dark Matter may only be a cover band but what an amazing set of covers, it was like being at the real thing (if you closed your eyes), spot on amazing and WOW...
Vantage Point played at the top of their game. They had their album with them to sell but most of the audience already had it. They did get a new fan, in the shape of my son (a slipknot fan who pointedly refuses to listen to anything I recommend) so I suppose I'll be buying the album for Xmas for him now :)
Failure to Communicate played a tight set, sounding even better than in July, and showing a lot more confidence in their stage presence. My daughter and her friend are now dedicated fans (which was unthinkable before with their taste for hip hop) it could be something to do with the youth of the band as well as the amazing performance. My son was also converted again. A band to watch out for in the near future I think.
Wired Desire showed why they are able to support big bands in stadia around the world. With their Album out now we can expect great thing to come. They are about to embark on another tour with Heavens Basement and I highly recommend going to see them if you get the chance.

Raffles

We would like to thank the following people/companies for their donations of prizes to help our Charity Night at JD's in Poolstock on 12th July

The Black Rose Tavern, Edinburgh has hosted several raffles for Naomi.

Courtesy of Edd our landlord, we had a mountain bike available. The deal was 'Buy a ticket for £1 or if you sing at Karaoke and pay £1 you will get 2 tickets'. The Draw took place on 25th June.

Thankyou to everyone who came along to the Black Rose Tavern on Thursday 29th May, we had a blast and raised a lot of money.
Special thanks to Tommy for running the show all night, even with the technical hiccup it was fab... he was charging £1 for a normal song, £2 for a long song and lots for Meatloaf... at one point he was distracted by the Huggers but rallied wonderfully.
Also great thanks to the HUGGERS, who accosted passersby in the street and requested £1 for a hug on at least 2 seperate occasions.
Forth 1 Radio and Rock Radio Glasgow gave us a mention, so thanks to them too... hopefully they'll be back on board now we have a date for the next concert.
A massive WOW to the guy who sent us a wad of cash and to Becky for the artwork to be auctioned or raffled ASAP, prints available for £5 each from Becky with contact details in the Black Rose Tavern.

Thanks to Alan from Royal Armouries who donated a Battle Axe and a Gladiator Helm from his own personal collection for auction, and for all his and the other staff from the Armoury for all their support and help so far. Looking forward to the teddies :) if they arrive.

Losing your hair

Lee Hogan had his head shaved at Dads and Lads in Springfield, he had been growing his hair for three years and went down to the bone, many thanks to Lisa, Ella and staff.

Louisa singleton also shaved off her long locks, well done Louisa. To see the newspaper article check out the Press Page.

Rock DJ Tommy had his head shaved during Metal Central at the Black Rose Tavern, suits you Sir! Pictures of the night are in the pictures area, and THANKYOU to Carrie for the haircut.

Various other events

Zoe Morris and Alan Eastham held a car boot sale, thanks to Burscough Car Boot for giving the pitch free of charge.

Debbie Warrington and her sons Joe and Mitch held a car wash at the Wigan firestation with the hunky firemen. It proved very successful.

QCON, the Belfast Games Convention raised money with raffles, quizes, buckets for cash and even selling places at games.

Laura and Kit performed Tarot reading on two seperate occasions in the Black Rose Tavern. These turned out to be very popular with the guys by the end of the night and with the hen party earlier in the day.

We now have pink marbled six-sided dice which say Naomi's fight on the 1, we will be selling these at various locations across the country and events round the world at £1 each. They are proving very popular and are selling out fast. We will not be restocking them so they are about to become a limited edition of 1000. Future dice will say Cystic Fibrosis Trust and will be various colours to raise money for CF Trust in time for Naomi's birthday each year in September. Almost all of the pink dice are sold now, with great thanks to all our US supporters who snapped up the dice at GENCON USA thanks to the plug in the publication Knights of the Dinner Table.

With thanks to the following ...

Collection boxes were  available at the following shops in Wigan;

Naomisfight Dice were on sale in Wigan Model Centre
(unfortunately due to the recession Wigan Model Centre has now closed after over 40 years, we will miss you Colin).
